I am very lucky to have a husband who works ‘with’ me to raise our children with the values we were raised on. Some of these values, however, seem to have been lost along the way by others. Today, as I was picking up Rogey Bear from Day Care, I held the door open for another parent and her child. At the same time I told Gabbylocks to stand back and wait for the lady to walk through. And so they did – walk through- without a thank you or at least some acknowledgement. When you are always reminding your child about manners and saying thank you, these situations do not help your cause.
In our home we have 4 ‘codes of conduct’ that everyone needs to try and follow. These incorporate some of the values we are trying to instill in our children. I don’t like to call them rules, as there is no major punishment, or reprimand. Below are our family’s Codes of Conduct:
TRY TO WEAR A SMILE ON YOUR DIAL
ALWAYS USE YOUR MANNERS
FORGIVE AND MOVE ON
A LITTLE HELP GOES A LONG WAY
Having a reminder of these, makes for a happy home. I have included the mini posters we have up in our home. Feel free to download and use them as you wish. From our home to yours.
