Back to School Checklist – Before School Starts (Freebie)

untitled

Well are you ready? As mentioned previously, school goes back soon and time can creep up on you. I have created a very general Back to School Checklist for you to download and print off. This is one to use Before the School Year Starts. Once the kidlets start school there is another one that you will need to do to make sure all is organised. As I had one in Kindy when I previously posted this, I have left it in. Kindy will only follow some of the checklist. Let’s get started and be on top of it before the chaos begins.

Labelling School Clothes and Other Items

This is a repost from again with some changes to keep it updated. Now that I have most of the things the kidlets need for school, the idea of how best to label them has been playing on my mind, again.  There are a variety of ways you can label these days. A few might be:

  • The good old permanent texta
  • Sewing labels onto clothes
  • Iron on labels for clothing
  • Commercially bought, commercially designed labels
  • Your own designs made up and printed out on the home computer

I am going with the commercially self designed and ordered kind. I sat down with each of the kidlets and they chose their design. It was great to see their eyes light up when choosing the design and colour. This year we went with a company called Tiny Me. They had a great special. Gabby chose the Woodland Creatures and Rogan went with Transport.

First Day of School (Back to School)

untitled

It has been a busy week with Gabbylocks starting Year 1 and Rogey Bear starting Kindy and also returning to some Day Care. I am also back at work 3 days a week as Learning Support Coordinator at a high school. All our students returned this week as well. Often when things are so hectic we forget to remember the little things. I came across a great idea a while ago, which will help with this. I cannot for the life of me remember the source but I have revamped it a little. It is a little questionaire for the kids to remember their First Day of the new school year. There will be one for the last day as well. I have completed it with Gabby and plan to put it up along with her First Day picture, when I find the time. Later it will be kept in her school memory collection. I wasn’t going to do one for Rogey Bear but might think of a simpler one for Kindy.

Back to School (Lunch Box Ready)

untitled

One week to go before Gabbylocks starts Year 1 and Rogey Bear starts kindy. As usual I was on top of everything 2 weeks ago but now that I am back at work as well, I seem to be stumbling. While I am getting back on track and finalising things, I am thinking about lunch box ideas. I was so excited to finally be doing this last year. Like most, I was over it by half way through term 1. The amount Gabby eats goes up and down and I can never keep up. First on my list was to buy a lunch box. There are so many options out there. Last year, due to my excitement, I got quite an expensive one on-line and we never used it properly most of the year. For Kindy, Rogan is not allowed an insulated lunch box which made my decision a little easier. Below are range of cheap and not so cheap lunch box options.

Nude Food Movers can be found at supermarkets and department chains. I used one for Gabbylocks when she was at Kindy and it was perfect.

imagesLaptop lunch boxers. We bought this one last year but it didn’t work for us in the capacity it was meant to.

mediumnudeLRFridge-to-go. I am considering giving this a go this year as it has been recommended to me. We live in a fairly hot climate and the Year 1s will not have fridges like they did in Prep. Apparently they keep food cool for up to 8 hours.

Next ……….. What to put in the lunch boxes.

Back To School (All about labels)

untitled

Today I was going to put together an awesome post about labeling. Yes I said awesome. You weren’t reading things. lol. As I was getting organised, I came across Kat’s post at The Organised Housewife. Kat is so organised that she always is one step of me being organised. Once again Kat, you inspire me. Everything about labeling is in her latest post so I am not going to re-invent the wheel. Click on the link below to read about the next step in organising and being ready for school.

Bright Star Kids gets a huge mention and they are great for labels. There are some other options out there and I have listed them below. My husband and I did decide that we would not use sticker labels for pencils (every pencil has to be labelled, according to our booklist). Instead we are going to go with the method we had at school. DH has said he would do it and I am giving that to him to start tonight. We are going to scrape part of the pencil away at the top and write Gabby’s name on it. I feel there will be more chance of it staying there. Once completed I will post the results.
